Throughout its history, Durmitor has always been a place of gatherings, celebrations, long traditions, and good cuisine.
Despite all the difficulties of the turbulent history and difficult life, the inhabitants of this region have known since ancient times to rejoice, celebrate life, and compete in various skills.
With the development of tourism, additional conditions have been created for new events that aim to complete the stay of tourists and inspire potential tourists to come to Durmitor and enjoy additional events in addition to the beautiful nature.
We highlight some of the most exciting events.
DAYS OF MOUNTAIN FLOWERS
A traditional tourist-promotional and entertainment-sports manifestation (lasts 7 days), various sports competitions, cultural-entertainment events, painting colonies of young people, and promotion of gastronomic products are organized.
As part of the event, the following are traditionally organized: the poetry festival „Petrovdan Poetic Wreath,“ an exhibition of flowers (wreaths and bouquets), a collection of handicrafts (knitted works, carvings, etc.), an Exhibition of dairy products, competition in folk sports (long jump, throwing stone from the shoulder, rope pulling, etc.), horse races and a wedding on the Black Lake.
WILD BEAUTY ART
Art festivals in open spaces and various natural localities are less and more famous in terms of tourism. The vision of this festival is to artistically „revive“ and add cultural content to places uniquely experienced as „natural beauty.“ The festival lasts from the end of July to the end of August; it contains three components, artistic music, operas, plays, and environmental content. Entrance is free.
DURMITOR’S HEALTHY FOOD DAYS
Durmitor Healthy Food Days are (traditionally) organized every year in Žabljak. The organizer is the Culture Center of the Municipality of Žabljak, cooperating with the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro.
The event is usually held in August every year in Žabljak. It is an exhibition of agricultural products from this region (dairy products and specialties of indigenous cuisine). Anyone interested can visit the Exhibition, try and buy the mentioned products.
MARCH 8TH EXHIBITION
March 8 exhibition of handicrafts: The Exhibition of domestic handicrafts and handicrafts from Durmitor (competitive nature) lasts for 7 days, from March 8 to International Women’s Day.
DANILO JAUKOVIĆ MEMORIAL
Organized mountaineering climb to Bobotov Kuk in honor of General Danilo Jauković. The organizer of this event is the army of Montenegro. After a successful ascent, a social gathering with army beans is organized in Šarban.
GREEN MONTENEGRO INTERNATIONAL FILM FEST (GMIFF)
Green Montenegro International Film Fest (GMIFF) is an Ecological film festival that aims to promote and develop the environmental spirit and green culture.
DURMITOR DOWNHILL ADVENTURE
Durmitor Downhill Adventure is a promotional cycling competition, a race of international character in mountain biking.
CROWN OF MONTENEGRO
Durmitor Xtreme Triathlon, half-triathlon competition swimming (1.9km), cycling (92.8km), and running (21.1km), with an elevation of 487m.
BLACKLAKE
Xtreme Triathlon
Competition in extreme triathlon swimming (3.8 km), cycling (187 km), and running (42 km).
HIGHLANDER DURMITOR
Highlander Durmitor gathers nature lovers worldwide for a five-day, 92-kilometer hiking adventure in Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
